White Duck Taco Shop | Grand Opening! | From Asheville to Greenville
Greenville's newest member of the taco family has finally arrived!
White Duck Taco Shop opened it's doors to the public last Thursday. I had the privilege of attending their soft opening on Tuesday. I was blown away. So much that I was back on Friday with friends.
Their roots are in our sister city to the north, in Asheville, NC. They now have seven locations between Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Although, this was my first experience.
Honestly, the location and aesthetic plays a huge role in what draws me so much to White Duck. They are in the Hampton Station development, which is a redevelopment of an old cotton mill. I am a huge fan of the fact that they share a wall with Birds Fly South Ale Project. I grabbed my tacos and then walked next door to grab a beer. Of course, if you'd rather have a margarita, White Duck has an incredible house lime margarita.
There is an abundant amount of outdoor seating with plenty of room for the kiddos four legged family members run around. The atmosphere and energy honestly felt like a family reunion. The sense of community that Hampton Station provides is incredible. They are located only one mile from downtown and the Swamp Rabbit Trail runs right by Hampton Station.
Now, what we're all here for - the tacos! I wish I could have tried all of them. But I was about to explode after three. I'm a huge fan of seafood, so I had the Fish, Bangkok Shrimp, and then the Bangkok Chicken taco. I forced myself to share the Crispy Pork Belly with pickled watermelon rind with my wife. The ingredients intrigued me too much, I simply had to give it a shot. Much to my stomach's dismay I also loved the queso, and ate every bite of it.
The Crispy Pork Belly ended up being my favorite, with the Bangkok Shrimp coming in at a close second. Every bite was fresh and packed with flavor. They do a great job of supporting local business by using local ingredients.
I was impressed with how quickly they were able to get our order to the table. We had our food in less than 10 minutes. The service was friendly and prompt, especially when you consider the madhouses that soft openings often end up being. Richard, the owner/manager, took the time to talk to us about our meal and experience. He then, somehow, remembered us when we were back 3 days later. On a Friday night, nonetheless!
I honestly want to hang out there all the time. Incredible food, refreshing beer, and a lovely environment, what else could you ask for? There are lot of great taco places in town, but none of them quite have the quality atmosphere and beer to compliment the experience like White Duck Taco Shop does.
